Ford debuts all-new 2020 Explorer at Detroit Auto Show

In a world of SUVs, the Ford Explorer remains a standout. From its sharp good looks to its impressive handling, this model boasts both a great performance and plenty of charm. Ford recently released details about the new SUV, which is expected to make its first appearance at the Detroit Auto Show sometime before January 27. But fans don’t have to wait to catch a glimpse of the SUV. In fact, Ford has released images and release date info on the new model. While pricing information isn’t yet available, the automaker has announced that the 2020 Ford Explorer will go on sale in summer 2019.

What’s new on the 2020 Ford Explorer?

Ford has redesigned the Explorer to be 200 pounds lighter and with new underpinnings in the form of a rear-wheel drive platform to replace the outgoing model’s front-wheel drive. There are also more powerful engines in the form of a 300-hp, 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-4 and a twin-turbocharged 365-hp, 3.0-liter V6. Towing capacity has also increased on both engines and is up 600 pounds on the V6 and 3,000 pounds on the four-cylinder.

The cabin of the new Explorer has also drastically different thanks to more space, a lower and wider dashboard and a variety of premium details. Ford has added natural-finish wood dashboard details for the Platinum trim, an available 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and much more. Even the base model comes equipped with a long list of technologies, including a 10-connection Wi-Fi hotspot, satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and power liftgate. Moving up in trim adds even more premium features, including a wireless charging pad, leather upholstery, Co-Pilot Assist+ and much more.
